viz comic mini-series: pineapple army circa 1986

I had a lot of fun this weekend vendoring. Cosplaying was a success. As Pikachu & Ash, we got attacked...well, mainly Ash. She was asked to be humped and told "I love you" several times. I just got a hug. As Mario & Luigi, we got a lot of smirks and weird looks. Overall, a very good weekend :]

Now I have to study. Finals are on Thursday! I know I have been lagging with updating my site with the goodz but I've been busy with school. Once school is out I will be adding more items to the site...and hopefully making new ones as well. Then, I'll be off to Mexico!

If you got a coupon from Sac Anime, please use it :D
Also, the rest of the pix are up on my flickr.

Picked up some books when I went to J-town on Saturday. Woo!

1/2. FLCL manga
3. craft book, all with the bear
4. felt foods :D super cute donuts + onigiri in there
5. embroidery book based on sketches

will include links/details on the books laterz.

PS. quick sneak peak of WIP (work in progress)...
They're a little deformed because I didn't sew them closed yet & FYI, the nigiri will have a face too...and I'm thinking about changing the mouth on the tempura. OH and best part that me loves is the nigiri are two pieces and the black part has velcro! I know, it's nothing new but it was really fun to make and play with. <3 I'll try and whip up tamago tomorrow.

SEE YOU AT SAC-ANIME!

sac anime

so, sac anime is next week. if you're going, here is a little taste of what is coming your way:

unconventional

I've been watching too much anime lately & wanted to do a little post on the absurd, nontraditional ones that were really mind/eye catching. These three aren't new but I think they definitely take anime to a new level. When everyone thinks anime, they assume kawaii big-eyed schoolgirls and something that involves 1) swords 2) guns 3) ninjitsu of some sort. Just like any medium, especially in animation, there are the little treasures you find that are visually orgasmic and breathtaking.

MIND GAME - written by Robin Nishi; screenplay/directed by Masaaki Yuasa (Samurai Champloo, Cat Soup, Genius Party)

The gist - Nishi, this guy who is completely in love with a childhood friend, Myon, meets up with her. They get into a mishap with the Yakuza and everything just starts snowballing.

The point - In the beginning, there's like 3 min. of fast clips, basically taking you through the lives of the characters and through the story. The events the characters went through were based on the decisions they made. Any story/event can be reinvented just by altering one choice...and that will snowball into new events, new decisions. There are so many options our lives can go. It really is a mind game trying to see all the different possibilities.

The animation is so insane. My imagination can't even work that well. They mix different styles and also use some real-life pictures. Some mindblowing scenes: the "love making" and the dancing scene. Another reason why animation is freaking amazing because there really are no limits.

TEKKON KINKREET - based on Taiyo Matsumoto's Black and White

The gist - Two brothers, Kuro & Shiro, trying to survive in a messed up town. Kuro, the older brother, tries to protect his brother and the town from Yakuza. Things start taking a turn for the worse when Kuro and Shiro get split up.

The point - There's a scene where Shiro talks about how he has all the screws that Kuro is missing. Throughout the entire movie, you can just feel how strong their bond is.

Wobbly-lined anime. Great colors. Music amazing, which was done by Plaid. This movie was intense, sweet, and kind of heartwrenching.

FLCL "Furi Kuri" - created & directed by Kazuya Tsurumaki (Evangelion)

The gist - a 6 ep OVA about an alien, Haruko, and her run-in with Naota. She attempts to use Naota in order to search for Atomsk and go against Medical Mechanica.

The point - Was there a point? HAHA. This anime was absolutely ridiculous. Amazing animation. Although the basic drawings are pretty traditional, they use some nontraditional formats with the timing and particular scenes are pretty random... like the South Park one. They even did some manga scenes and had some chibi moments. I think every anime needs a chibi scene!

All three are pretty crazy and worth watching more than once.

the beach

the governator

the pirate ship

tracy w/ giant donut

donut w/ giant donut

adrian w/ giant donut

partners in crime since 1997

pictures by adrian. shot, processed, developed.

Double Shot - best view of the ocean
Pirate Ship - gigglies in the stomach
"Rape It" - leaaaaaaaaaan
Hurricane - but you could call me slurricane

Corn dogs tasted like crap on a stick. Giant donut was amazing as always. They have no killer clown tattoos. After some time and calculation, we figured out you need to ride 8-10 rides in order to get your $30 worth of the unlimited bracelet. Unfortunately, we were only able to accomplish 4. The clouds rolled in around 6 :\ I think that's what my dream was trying to tell me... the dream of the lava ball crashing into the ocean creating a tidal wave onto the boardwalk and causing a massive fire. Yup... that all meant there was going to be rain. haha.

Kin-Yoobi Con + Updates

Kin-Yoobi Con in Hayward was fun! Sales were good. Too bad I didn't have more onigiri plushies... I will definitely make sure I bring an overload next time.

Adrian made us really kawaii bear hats based off Shiro's hat from Tekkon Kinkreet. Isn't it cute??

Also, The Donut Lounge will be at You Bazaar! in SF on Nov. 2. Will give more details closer to the event.

I will DEFINITELY be working on new products for You Bazaar. More plushies and bags and hopefully, t-shirts. Excited!

Debating on whether I should vendor at con-X-treme. I spoke to the founder yesterday at Kin-Yoobi and the con sounds fun. BUT it's the same weekend as Sac Anime. AND it's 4 days in San Mateo. Quite a commute... but for $100 for all four days... that sounds worth it to me. I'll update later on my final decision. The cool thing about this con is that it's about EVERYTHING animation. They're going to have Adobe CS3 workshops! Hmm... I think I convinced myself while typing this out.

Alright, well, the weekend was damn exhausting. I was up for 24 hours and have pretty much been passed out all day today but it was well worth it.

Special thanks to my helper. Prepare yourself for the Ultimate Speed challenge the next time we table.
